{"id":1773,"date":"2010-03-20T11:50:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-20T15:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/03\/20\/how-many-north-country-people-dont-have-health-insurance\/"},"modified":"2010-03-20T11:50:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-20T15:50:00","slug":"how-many-north-country-people-dont-have-health-insurance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/03\/20\/how-many-north-country-people-dont-have-health-insurance\/","title":{"rendered":"How many North Country people don&#8217;t have health insurance?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we rumble through this weekend&#8217;s debate, I found an interesting chunk of information on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-srv\/special\/politics\/votes\/house\/finalhealthcare\/?hpid=skybox\">Washington Post website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Post analyzed how many people in each congressional district live and work without health insurance.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out roughly 12% of our neighbors live without coverage.  That&#8217;s roughly 1 out of every 8 people.  <\/p>\n<p>That means when they get sick or injured, the cost of their care will hit their pocketbooks directly, or be born by the medical professionals who treat them.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill now being debated would cut the rate of uninsured in the US to around 5%.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, it&#8217;s a little unclear still how the massive legislation would affect people in our region.<\/p>\n<p>One other detail on the Post&#8217;s analysis is the amount of money this region&#8217;s lawmakers have received from the healthcare industry.<\/p>\n<p>Looks like fairly small amounts for Reps.
