There wasn\u2019t anything else like it at SXSW. There probably isn\u2019t anything else like it on Earth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This past Wednesday, long-time Ottawa Citizen music reporter Lynn Saxberg covered a panel discussion, presented as art of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/megaphono.tv\/about\/\">Megaphono<\/a>&#8221; &#8211; a\u00a0festival and music industry conference. Her<a href=\"http:\/\/ottawacitizen.com\/entertainment\/local-arts\/the-rise-of-a-tribe-called-red\">\u00a0article includes a short video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The panel included\u00a0Tribe\u2019s Deejay NDN (aka Ian Campeau), the group&#8217;s manager Guillaume Decouflet and their booking agent Adam Countryman, speaking about ways music can impact society:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Campeau was instrumental in persuading a Nepean football team that its name was racist. \u201cThat\u2019s when I had this realization we had a lot of power,\u201d he said. \u201cOnce you realize you can change something, it gets really addictive.\u201d His next target? \u201cEnding the oppression of everybody.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, good luck with a modest little goal like that!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, according to the Citizen article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The master plan for A Tribe Called Red involves an album release on the Pirate\u2019s Blend label in 2016, and breaking even wider in the U.S. With 2017 marking the 150<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of Confederation, \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a very important year politically,\u201d Guillaume noted, \u201cbecause these guys have become one of the voices of aboriginal youth.\u201d Twenty years from now, he predicts they will be a \u201cheritage\u201d band. \u201cLike Rush,\u201d interjected moderator Kwende Kefentse, eliciting much laughter from the audience.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Something to keep an eye on in the years ahead.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19179\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2015\/02\/atcr-2-small-640x375.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19179\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-19179\" alt=\"Ottawa's own &quot;A Tribe Called Red&quot;.
