{"id":1958,"date":"2010-04-29T07:42:35","date_gmt":"2010-04-29T11:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=1958"},"modified":"2010-04-29T07:42:35","modified_gmt":"2010-04-29T11:42:35","slug":"budget-crisis-in-albany-mean-work-grinds-to-a-halt-in-north-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/04\/29\/budget-crisis-in-albany-mean-work-grinds-to-a-halt-in-north-country\/","title":{"rendered":"Budget crisis in Albany mean work grinds to a halt in North Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1959\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/04\/29\/budget-crisis-in-albany-mean-work-grinds-to-a-halt-in-north-country\/sayward\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1959\" title=\"sayward\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2010\/04\/sayward-100x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2010\/04\/sayward-100x150.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2010\/04\/sayward.jpg 134w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a>A couple of weeks ago, North Country Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward warned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/15505\/sayward-albany-budget-crisis-hurting-local-businesses\">in an NCPR interview<\/a> that the short-term spending bills now keeping state government working don&#8217;t include funds for construction projects.<\/p>\n<p>She cited the example of a Ticonderoga company doing work on the Northway.<\/p>\n<p>The work was continuing, Sayward said, but only because the company was eating into its own reserves, while waiting for the state checks to arrive.<\/p>\n<p>Now the <a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x1369563381\/Work-on-Tom-Miller-Road-bridge-project-stopped\">Plattsburgh Press-Republican<\/a> is reporting that one North Country firm has suspended work on the Tom Miller road bridge &#8212; which runs above the Northway &#8212; until the money starts to flow again.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Payments to Luck Brothers and many other contractors around the state ceased on April 1 as the state budget became officially late.<\/p>\n<p>Assemblywoman Janet Duprey (R-Peru) said that withholding payments to contractors makes no sense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The money has already been borrowed and is there.
