He reports Conservative Party chairman Michael Long approached Alexandria Bay businessman Matt Doheny to oppose moderate Dede Scozzafava:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The answer I got was: &#8216;No, he doesn&#8217;t want to alienate the Republican Party,'&#8221; the chairman recalled Wednesday. &#8220;He was in the mix as one of the guys I would have supported against Dede Scozzafava. He chose to play the inside baseball game.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead, Long went with Doug Hoffman, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/10\/26\/video-hoffman-on-the-glenn-beck-show\/\">who went on to become a national darling<\/a> of the conservative movement.<\/p>\n<p>Now Long is vowing that Doheny doesn&#8217;t get a second chance.
