{"id":2166,"date":"2010-05-27T08:51:31","date_gmt":"2010-05-27T12:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2166"},"modified":"2010-05-27T08:51:31","modified_gmt":"2010-05-27T12:51:31","slug":"another-north-country-child-dies-on-an-atv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/05\/27\/another-north-country-child-dies-on-an-atv\/","title":{"rendered":"Another North Country child dies on an ATV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know it infuriates people when I highlight these horrific deaths <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/06\/23\/another-flurry-of-atv-deaths\/\">(read more of the on-going In box discussion here)<\/a> but it seems important to keep discussing and debating just how deadly these machines are for children.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x433574125\/Boy-killed-in-ATV-crash\">Plattsburgh Press-Republican<\/a>, 12-year-old Dylan Bilow from Bombay was killed on Tuesday when he turned his Arctic Cat 4-wheeler in front of an on-coming truck.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bilow, who was wearing a helmet, was rushed to Alice Hyde Medical Center  in Malone but was pronounced dead upon his arrival,&#8221; the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n<p>There is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2006\/09\/060908172021.htm\">long-established conviction among doctors and pediatricians<\/a> that children under the age of 18 simply shouldn&#8217;t be riding ATVs.<\/p>\n<p>The machines are too heavy and too powerful.\u00a0 Many of the kids who die are trapped under their 4-wheelers and literally suffocate to death.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, several Upstate New York children are killed or permanently and brutally injured by these machines.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, apparently, the 12-year-old was driving on a public road.
