{"id":2183,"date":"2010-06-01T08:36:39","date_gmt":"2010-06-01T12:36:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2183"},"modified":"2010-06-01T08:37:47","modified_gmt":"2010-06-01T12:37:47","slug":"will-the-north-country-lead-nys-next-big-republican-insurrection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/06\/01\/will-the-north-country-lead-nys-next-big-republican-insurrection\/","title":{"rendered":"Will the North Country lead NY&#8217;s next big Republican insurrection?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight at the state Republican convention in New York City, Essex County GOP chair Ron Jackson is thinking about pushing a no-confidence vote for state leader Ed Cox.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the only thing stopping us from getting united is Mr. Cox, I probably will,&#8221; Jackson <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/article_094c180c-6d15-11df-bf09-001cc4c002e0.html\">told the Glens Falls Post-Star on Monday<\/a>. &#8220;I&#8217;ll play it by ear, but I&#8217;d say it&#8217;s more likely than not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cox, of course, is backing a Democrat, Suffolk county executive Steve Levy, in the governor&#8217;s race.  Supporters of Rick Lazio, including Jackson, are furious.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, another North Country activist, tea party organizer Mark Barie, is stirring up the Republican world by backing Essex County accountant Doug Hoffman in the NY-23 race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[The GOP] is a party that has had difficulty organizing, difficulty raising funds,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/15699\/ny-23-tea-party-backs-hoffman-republican-party-backs-doheny\">Barie said<\/a>, &#8220;and a party that has had difficulty reading the minds and hearts of their own constituents, their own members.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Most county GOP leaders are backing Watertown businessman Matt Doheny in the contest.<\/p>\n<p>All the barbs and arrows being fired here in the region certainly  make for interesting political theater, and no one is quite sure where it&#8217;s all going to lead.<\/p>\n<p>But in a survey of the worst political operations in the country, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0510\/37966_Page4.html\">Politico singled out the Empire state&#8217;s GOP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Empire State is so full of massively mismanaged GOP campaigns, it  would be impossible to choose just one for a list of the year&#8217;s biggest  flops&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>If Woody Allen was right that 90 percent of life is just  showing up, the New York GOP must be betting heavily on the other 10  percent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ouch.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see if the party leaders meeting in NYC can put a happier face on things, but it&#8217;s hard to see how.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight at the state Republican convention in New York City, Essex County GOP chair Ron [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2183"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2183"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2183\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2184,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2183\/revisions\/2184"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2183"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2183"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2183"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
