{"id":2287,"date":"2010-06-28T06:32:50","date_gmt":"2010-06-28T10:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2287"},"modified":"2010-06-28T06:34:00","modified_gmt":"2010-06-28T10:34:00","slug":"in-box-summer-sci-fi-short-film-festival-kicks-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/06\/28\/in-box-summer-sci-fi-short-film-festival-kicks-off\/","title":{"rendered":"In Box Summer Sci-fi SHORT Film Festival Kicks off!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s summer and that means big sci-fi blockbusters, right?<\/p>\n<p>Science fiction happens to be one of my weaknesses &#8212; I&#8217;m a sucker for a starship and a\u00a0 mysterious horizon.<\/p>\n<p>So over the next week, I&#8217;ll be unveiling a small &#8212; teeny, in some cases &#8212; sci-fi blockbuster every day.<\/p>\n<p>These are brilliant, provocative works of speculative fiction (that&#8217;s the new, high-brow term for sci-fi) that are all roughly 10 minutes long or less.<\/p>\n<p>We kick off with the original version of the film &#8220;9&#8221; by Shane Acker.\u00a0 This was later expanded into a full-length animated feature, in collaboration with Tim Burton.<\/p>\n<p>But this take, with its lack of voices, its spare industrial soundtrack, and its more elegiac ending, is one of my favorites.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"210\" height=\"160\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/5IQcMeNh7Hc&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/5IQcMeNh7Hc&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>This is your chance to be a film critics for a day!
