{"id":2394,"date":"2010-07-20T11:05:40","date_gmt":"2010-07-20T15:05:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2394"},"modified":"2010-07-20T11:05:40","modified_gmt":"2010-07-20T15:05:40","slug":"okay-its-official-this-summer-is-awesome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/07\/20\/okay-its-official-this-summer-is-awesome\/","title":{"rendered":"Okay, it&#8217;s official:  This summer is awesome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, there have been some sweltering days when I found myself griping a bit.<\/p>\n<p>But on the whole, this is shaping up to be the most, well, summery summer I&#8217;ve seen in my 11 years in the North Country.<\/p>\n<p>My tally of swimming, hiking, camping, waterskiing, and messing-about-in-boats days is embarrassingly high.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/16000\/summer-heat-brings-more-tourists-to-the-north-country\">Jonathan Brown and Martha Foley reported this morning<\/a> that the sultry weather seems to have brought more tourists to our backyard, which seems logical.<\/p>\n<p>After all, who could resist?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sometimes we call it a perfect storm and this year the storm seems to be in our favor,&#8221; said Gary DeYoung, with the Thousand Islands International Tourism Council.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a very warm, pleasant outdoor weather summer for all our outdoor attractions.\u00a0 The Canadian dollar is strong&#8230;we&#8217;re also seeing people stay a little bit closer to home because they are cautious with the dollar.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Amen, brother.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had some of the best &#8220;staycations&#8221; of my life in the last two months&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, I&#8217;ll report from a brilliant summer-day hike to the top of Crane Mountain in the southern Adirondacks&#8230;a summit that comes equipped with a swimming pond.<\/p>\n<p>So chime in.\u00a0 Are you having a great summer?\u00a0 If not, what&#8217;s up?\u00a0 Comments welcome below&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, there have been some sweltering days when I found myself griping a bit.
