{"id":2512,"date":"2010-08-19T16:46:06","date_gmt":"2010-08-19T20:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2512"},"modified":"2011-06-13T15:38:45","modified_gmt":"2011-06-13T19:38:45","slug":"adirondack-council-says-it-has-a-direct-mandate-to-make-sure-big-tupper-resort-gets-a-permit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/08\/19\/adirondack-council-says-it-has-a-direct-mandate-to-make-sure-big-tupper-resort-gets-a-permit\/","title":{"rendered":"Adirondack Council says it has a &#8220;direct mandate&#8221; to make sure Big Tupper resort gets a permit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve had a lot of questions about something that Brian Houseal, head of the Adirondack Council, said in this morning&#8217;s story about the Adirondack Club and Resort project.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s his quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Adirondack Council has a large board of 25 people so obviously there&#8217;s a diversity of viewpoints about this project in Tupper Lake.<\/p>\n<p>But my mandate from the board \u2014 and it was a consensus mandate \u2014 is to get a permit with conditions from the APA so that this project meets the APA standard of no undue adverse impact, but also a project that will benefit the economy of Tupper Lake.<\/p>\n<p>So I have a direct mandate from the board to go forward and make sure this project gets a permit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In an interview &#8212; more of which will air sometime next week &#8212; Houseal still raised concerns about several environmental issues with the resort, dealing with road design, wastewater management and forest fragmentation.<\/p>\n<p>But he made it clear that he thought those would be resolved as part of the final adjudicatory hearing process, which is now set to resume.<\/p>\n<p>I asked ACR developer Michael Foxman about Houseal&#8217;s position at a meeting Wednesday night in Tupper Lake.\u00a0 He said the Adirondack Council had communicated to him their desire for a permit.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;ve heard from Brian, exactly what you did.\u00a0 I believe him.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure that at some point they&#8217;ll ask for something I really don&#8217;t like.\u00a0 But I think what Brian said is true.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Asked about the environmental community&#8217;s less vocal opposition to the resort, Foxman added this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I think that if they had their druthers some [environmentalists]  would be opposed to all development without regard to its merit.<\/p>\n<p>Some [green groups] are perhaps more concerned with the people who live in the Park.<\/p>\n<p>Some  of them are probably reacting to the fact that it would be very  unpopular to come out and kill an economic opportunity that would create  so many jobs and do so much for a community that desperately needs it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve had a lot of questions about something that Brian Houseal, head of the Adirondack [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[5693],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2512"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2512"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2512\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2513,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2512\/revisions\/2513"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2512"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2512"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2512"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
