{"id":2742,"date":"2010-09-16T09:31:20","date_gmt":"2010-09-16T13:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2742"},"modified":"2010-09-16T10:35:23","modified_gmt":"2010-09-16T14:35:23","slug":"is-matt-dohenys-lead-slim-or-commanding-or-what","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/09\/16\/is-matt-dohenys-lead-slim-or-commanding-or-what\/","title":{"rendered":"Is Matt Doheny&#8217;s lead &#8220;slim&#8221; or &#8220;commanding&#8221; or what?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve taken a lot of heat the last 48 hours for suggesting that Matt Doheny&#8217;s lead over Doug Hoffman in the NY-23 Republican primary is &#8220;commanding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Doheny leads currently by roughly 600 votes, with just under 1,600 absentee votes remaining to be counted.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also possible &#8212; though unlikely &#8212; that a recanvas of the polls will turn up significant changes.<\/p>\n<p>News organizations have described this situation in various ways.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press has already declared Doheny the unofficial winner.<\/p>\n<p>The Watertown Daily Times describes the lead as &#8220;slim&#8221; in its news pages, but has declared Doheny the winner on its editorial page.<\/p>\n<p>The Adirondack Daily Enterprise calls the race &#8220;close,&#8221; while the Plattsburgh Press-Republican calls Doheny the &#8220;apparent winner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line here is that barring dramatic developments, it will be very difficult for Doug Hoffman to close the gap.<\/p>\n<p>He would have to win the absentee ballot count by a wider margin than he won Franklin County &#8212; and Franklin County was by far Hoffman&#8217;s most fertile territory.<\/p>\n<p>So, as things stand now, I&#8217;ll stick with my assessment: Doheny&#8217;s lead is commanding.<\/p>\n<p>But as Hoffman&#8217;s camp rightfully points out, it&#8217;s important to count every vote and get final results before anyone is declared the victor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve taken a lot of heat the last 48 hours for suggesting that Matt Doheny&#8217;s [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[886],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2742"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2742"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2742\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2743,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2742\/revisions\/2743"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2742"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2742"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2742"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
