{"id":2750,"date":"2010-09-17T07:37:52","date_gmt":"2010-09-17T11:37:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2750"},"modified":"2010-09-17T08:11:55","modified_gmt":"2010-09-17T12:11:55","slug":"election-update-ny-20-ny-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/09\/17\/election-update-ny-20-ny-23\/","title":{"rendered":"Election Update:  NY-20, NY-23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It now appears that no clarity on the NY-23 Republican primary will come until next Tuesday at the earliest.\u00a0 That&#8217;s when all the absentee ballots will be opened and counted across the district.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Hoffman campaign at least 1,900 have been returned so far.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative Party chair Mike Long <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/section\/blogs09\">told the Watertown Daily Times<\/a> that he expects Doug Hoffman to remain in the race as a third-party candidate, but admits that he too hasn&#8217;t spoken with Hoffman since election night.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The party chairman said Mr. Hoffman likely won\u2019t ask for his advice,  adding he hasn\u2019t talked to the candidate since the primary ended.<\/p>\n<p>But  Mr. Long said his candidate could win a three-way race among himself,  Mr. Doheny and Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, despite trailing  both in fundraising.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what his resource is? People believe in him,\u201d Mr. Long said. \u201cThat\u2019s a pretty powerful resource.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One wrinkle in this narrative is that Republican turnout in Franklin County &#8212; Hoffman&#8217;s political base &#8212; was really low.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/content.detail\/id\/515409.html?nav=5008\">That&#8217;s according to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Normally, this kind of muddle wouldn&#8217;t be a big deal.\u00a0 In this case, every week counts, if Republicans (or Conservatives or tax partiers) want a real shot at Democrat Bill Owens.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in the NY-20 race between Republican Chris Gibson and Democrat Scott Murphy, there&#8217;s a bit of an ad war going on, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/app\/blogs\/?p=52175&amp;cat=259\">Glens Falls Post Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gibson&#8217;s camp claims that Murphy&#8217;s ads are misleading about the jobs picture, while Murphy&#8217;s team claims that attack ads running against him are being funded by a secretive group that wants to eliminate or &#8220;privatize&#8221; social security.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/blogs.detail\/display\/765.html\">The Adirondack Daily Enterprise<\/a> notes that a poll from Siena is due out later this morning that will give us a much clearer snapshot of the Murphy-Gibson contest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It now appears that no clarity on the NY-23 Republican primary will come until next [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[886],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2750"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2750"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2750\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2751,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2750\/revisions\/2751"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2750"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2750"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2750"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
