{"id":2889,"date":"2010-10-05T15:01:39","date_gmt":"2010-10-05T19:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2889"},"modified":"2010-10-06T08:10:18","modified_gmt":"2010-10-06T12:10:18","slug":"ny23-now-a-pure-toss-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/10\/05\/ny23-now-a-pure-toss-up\/","title":{"rendered":"NY23 now a &#8220;pure toss-up&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When Doug Hoffman ended his campaign for the House on Tuesday, it was the kind of break that political parties get in big wave years &#8212; the cards just seem to fall your way.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats had that kind of run in 2006 and 2008 and this cycle it looks like the GOP is catching the updrafts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rothenbergpoliticalreport.com\/news\/article\/new-york-23-hoffman-out-race-moves-to-toss-up\">Stuart Rothenberg<\/a>, the widely respected pundit, issued a quick analysis arguing that this gives Matt Doheny a real shot at retaking the seat for the GOP.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is a break Republicans had hoped for but were never sure they were going to get. For now, the race moves to Pure Toss-Up.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rothenberg argues that Doheny has the resources to compete with the well-funded incumbent, Democrat Bill Owens, across the sprawling district.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Republican strategists are excited, not just for a unified party, but  because they believe Doheny is putting together a credible campaign in  an expansive district.
