{"id":2894,"date":"2010-10-06T06:53:05","date_gmt":"2010-10-06T10:53:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2894"},"modified":"2010-10-06T08:09:34","modified_gmt":"2010-10-06T12:09:34","slug":"morning-read-are-wind-farms-too-noisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/10\/06\/morning-read-are-wind-farms-too-noisy\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read: Are wind farms too noisy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Times profiles a community on an island in Maine&#8217;s Penobscott Bay where some locals say &#8220;the whoosh-and-whoop of the 123-foot blades is making life in this otherwise tranquil corner of the island unbearable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>They are among a small but growing number of families and homeowners  across the country who say they have learned the hard way that wind  power \u2014 a clean alternative to electricity from fossil fuels \u2014 is not  without emissions of its own.<\/p>\n<p>Lawsuits and complaints about turbine noise, vibrations and subsequent  lost property value have cropped up in Illinois, Texas, Pennsylvania,  Wisconsin and Massachusetts, among other states.<\/p>\n<p>In one case in DeKalb County, Ill., at least 38 families have sued to  have 100 turbines removed from a wind farm there.
