{"id":2907,"date":"2010-10-08T06:51:13","date_gmt":"2010-10-08T10:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=2907"},"modified":"2010-10-08T08:43:33","modified_gmt":"2010-10-08T12:43:33","slug":"morning-read-lake-placids-giant-boathouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/10\/08\/morning-read-lake-placids-giant-boathouse\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Lake Placid&#8217;s GIANT boathouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a common refrain in the Adirondacks:\u00a0 We have too much regulation.\u00a0 People will do the right thing if left to their own devices.\u00a0 We&#8217;re the best stewards.<\/p>\n<p>So how do we process this kind of thing?\u00a0 A new homeowner in Lake Placid raced the clock to skirt new APA boathouse rules and is building a 5,000+ square foot structure on the shore of the lake.<\/p>\n<p>This from <a href=\"http:\/\/adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/content.detail\/id\/515792\/Big-boathouse-on-Lake-Placid-gets-in-before-size-cap-starts.html?nav=5008\">Chris Knight&#8217;s article in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But neighbors and others who own homes on the lake say a 5,582-square-foot boathouse is just too big.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s kind of a shocker,&#8221; said Robert Evans, a Glens Falls doctor who owns an adjacent seasonal home on the lake.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Here we&#8217;ve got an old kid&#8217;s camp that&#8217;s been there for 50 years with a small boathouse, and all of a sudden the guy can put in a nine- or 11-slip boathouse.
