{"id":308,"date":"2008-11-25T23:33:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-26T03:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2008\/11\/25\/a-ricochet-blow-for-the-north-country\/"},"modified":"2008-11-25T23:33:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-26T03:33:00","slug":"a-ricochet-blow-for-the-north-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2008\/11\/25\/a-ricochet-blow-for-the-north-country\/","title":{"rendered":"A Ricochet Blow For the North Country?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli issued his dreary outlook for New York state&#8217;s economy, the good news (if you can call it that) seemed to be that most of the job losses are concentrated far, far from the North Country.<\/p>\n<p>DiNapoli predicts that 175,000 of the 225,000 lost positions will be in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>But the snap-back of all those losses downstate will be a massive bleed of tax revenue:  as much as $6.5 billion lost from the finance sector alone. <\/p>\n<p>DiNapoli is talking about New York needing a federal bailout &#8212; one that would likely make the bailout for the Big Three automakers pale by comparison.<\/p>\n<p>If things get that bad, Albany funding for North Country  jobs and projects could evaporate.
