Murphy has been attacked during this campaign for being too partisan and too far to the left to serve our moderate congressional district.

But despite Republican claims that he votes lockstep with the Democratic speaker of the House, neither his comments nor his actions indicate that he’s a rubber stamp on anything.

Republican challenger Chris Gibson picked up a major endorsement of his own, with a nod from the Saratogian newspaper.

Most disconcerting was [Murphy’s] ultimate support for President Obama’s health care reform package.

The new law has some appeal. But it has shortcomings, too, and Murphy’s defense of the law with an acknowledgement that it needs some fixing isn’t enough.

His challenger this time around, Republican Chris Gibson, makes a compelling argument for repealing the law and starting over in an attempt to bring health care costs under control.

Gibson, a retired colonel, is a formidable, interesting candidate whose decidedly more conservative approach would be welcome in the 20th District.

Gibson goes into the final sprint with a 9-point lead, according to the latest Siena College poll. RealClearPolitics rates this one a “leans Republican,” but all sides expect this one to be very, very close.

[1
886
