{"id":315,"date":"2008-11-30T15:48:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-30T19:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2008\/11\/30\/clintons-new-york-days-are-over\/"},"modified":"2008-11-30T15:48:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-30T19:48:00","slug":"clintons-new-york-days-are-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2008\/11\/30\/clintons-new-york-days-are-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Clinton&#8217;s New York days are over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After eight years as New York&#8217;s junior Senator, it&#8217;s been confirmed that Hillary Clinton is heading back to Washington:  The former First Lady is scheduled to appear on Monday in Chicago &#8212; her home town &#8212; with president-elect Barack Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Clinton is slated to serve as Secretary of State, a remarkable evolution in a career that had already taken her into some of the most curious and unexpected corners of American history.<\/p>\n<p>From the popular but embattled Clinton White House, to her &#8220;carpetbagger&#8221; victory in New York, to her ill-fated run for the Presidency, Hillary Rodham Clinton has disproved the old saying that there are no second acts in American lives.<\/p>\n<p>Clinton has had a couple of second acts already and is heading for what will certainly &#8212; success or failure &#8212; be a fascinating final act. <\/p>\n<p>Her elevation will now trigger a second wave of confusion in Albany, as Governor David Paterson searches for a replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Awkward, isn&#8217;t it?  New York will be represented by both a Governor and a U.S. Senator that the voters didn&#8217;t choose.<\/p>\n<p>America may not be the most logical or productive democracy in the world, but we certainly have the most fascinating. <\/p>\n<p>I defy anyone to find a figure more complex and compelling than Clinton.
