{"id":3408,"date":"2010-12-18T17:55:28","date_gmt":"2010-12-18T22:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3408"},"modified":"2010-12-20T11:06:08","modified_gmt":"2010-12-20T16:06:08","slug":"the-regional-divide-in-the-republican-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/12\/18\/the-regional-divide-in-the-republican-party\/","title":{"rendered":"The regional divide in the Republican Party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s an interesting detail from Saturday&#8217;s don&#8217;t-ask-don&#8217;t-tell vote.\u00a0 A total of 39 Republicans voted.<\/p>\n<p>Of those, 31 voted No. Sounds like a pretty solid bloc, right?<\/p>\n<p>But of those No votes, fifteen were in the South.<\/p>\n<p>North of the Mason-Dixon line, the GOP vote was far more nuanced.\u00a0 Sixteen Republican Senators voted No, but seven voted Yes.<\/p>\n<p>Even more interestingly, not one Republican Senator northeast of Kentucky and Indiana voted against repeal.<\/p>\n<p>Supporters of ending the policy picked up a remarkable five Republican votes in the Northeast.
