Generally speaking, universities in the US stink at helping women and minorities succeed at technical fields — science, technology, engineering and math.<\/p>\n
So Forbes magazine set out to find schools<\/a> that are doing a better job supporting this different cadre of students.<\/p>\n And it turns out that two schools with big footprints in the North Country made the top 20 when it comes to helping women.<\/p>\n Highest on the list was the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, which is headquartered in Syracuse but has important facilities and research projects in Newcomb in the Adirondacks.\u00a0 CESF was third on the list.<\/p>\n Ranking 19th meanwhile is St. Lawrence University (which, full disclaimer, owns NCPR) in Canton.\u00a0\u00a0 Also noteworthy is the fact that several of the schools on this list are in rural areas.<\/p>\n Topping the list, in fact, was a school in small-town Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
