{"id":3490,"date":"2011-01-09T11:26:22","date_gmt":"2011-01-09T16:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3490"},"modified":"2011-01-10T12:26:38","modified_gmt":"2011-01-10T17:26:38","slug":"pundit-20th-or-23d-house-districts-likely-to-be-broken-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/01\/09\/pundit-20th-or-23d-house-districts-likely-to-be-broken-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Pundit: 20th or 23d House districts likely to be broken up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maury Thompson has an <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/article_cbfabfba-1bb2-11e0-b5bc-001cc4c002e0.html\">excellent article in today&#8217;s Post-Star<\/a>, looking at possible impacts of redistricting on the North Country.<\/p>\n<p>New York state stands to lose two seats by the 2012 elections.<\/p>\n<p>One of Thompson&#8217;s sources thinks the 20th district, represented by congressman Chris Gibson (R-Kinderhook) or the 23rd district, represented by Bill Owens (D-Plattsburgh) may be prime targets for dissolution<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hank Sheinkopf, a political consultant from New York City, told the Post-Star the following:<\/p>\n<p>Either the 20th District, represented by Gibson, or the 23rd District directly to the north, represented by Bill Owens, a Democrat from Plattsburgh, would be eliminated, he suggested.<\/p>\n<p>Boundaries of the remaining districts would shift to the south and west.<\/p>\n<p>Sheinkopf said Gibson and Owens are both new congressmen, while others in the western part of the state, particularly Rep.
