{"id":3522,"date":"2011-01-08T10:42:15","date_gmt":"2011-01-08T15:42:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3522"},"modified":"2011-01-10T12:25:04","modified_gmt":"2011-01-10T17:25:04","slug":"the-north-country-bounces-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/01\/08\/the-north-country-bounces-back\/","title":{"rendered":"The North Country bounces back?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, Alcoa announced that it will reopen one of its plants in Massena, restoring more than 350 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Laurentian Aerospace went public with news that its airline refurbishment project in Plattsburgh appears to have the green light from investors &#8212; a prospect that could eventually bring 900 new jobs to Clinton County.<\/p>\n<p>In November, another Canadian firm announced that it will open a medicine manufacturing plant in Massena, promising as many as 100 new jobs.<\/p>\n<p>There are smaller signs of fresh energy as well.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, NCPR&#8217;s David Sommerstein profiled a grocer in Jefferson County who&#8217;s reviving his parents&#8217; store, this time with a focus on locally-produced food.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t meant to be an everything-is-rosy lullaby.\u00a0 Clearly, times are still tough out there for a lot of businesses and a lot of families.<\/p>\n<p>But these are major, hopeful developments, right?
