{"id":3642,"date":"2011-01-25T05:28:10","date_gmt":"2011-01-25T10:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3642"},"modified":"2011-01-25T15:07:28","modified_gmt":"2011-01-25T20:07:28","slug":"morning-read-epa-rejects-lake-champlain-clean-up-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/01\/25\/morning-read-epa-rejects-lake-champlain-clean-up-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  EPA rejects Lake Champlain clean-up plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.burlingtonfreepress.com\/article\/20110124\/NEWS02\/110124024\/EPA-tosses-out-Lake-Champlain-cleanup-goals\">The Burlington Free Press<\/a> is reporting this morning that the Federal EPA wants a fresh look at plans to cut phosphorous pollution pouring into Lake Champlain.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was announced on Monday.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burlingtonfreepress.com\/article\/20110124\/NEWS02\/110124024\/EPA-tosses-out-Lake-Champlain-cleanup-goals\">This from the Free Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Phosphorus, which feeds noxious weed and algae growth, is considered  the lake\u2019s primary pollutant. Despite nine years of work and $100  million in spending, there has been no significant decrease in  phosphorus anywhere in Lake Champlain since adoption of the plan.<\/p>\n<p>But the decision Monday by EPA Region 1 Administrator Curt Spalding was  not based on the lack of measurable improvement.
