{"id":3762,"date":"2011-02-15T07:20:45","date_gmt":"2011-02-15T12:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3762"},"modified":"2011-02-15T14:50:49","modified_gmt":"2011-02-15T19:50:49","slug":"morning-read-laurentian-moves-forward-with-protest-from-unions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/02\/15\/morning-read-laurentian-moves-forward-with-protest-from-unions\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Laurentian moves forward, with protest from unions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The P<a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x998540271\/Tax-exempt-bonds-OKed-for-Laurentian\">lattsburgh Press-Republican<\/a> is reporting that Clinton County has approved more than $122 million in tax-exempt bonds to boost the Laurentian Aerospace project.<\/p>\n<p>According to the newspaper, this was a &#8220;critical step.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Those are needed to help Laurentian Aerospace fund construction of a  $175 million facility proposed for maintenance, repair and overhaul of  wide-body jets at Plattsburgh International Airport.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The P-R reports that labor groups protested the meeting because they want guarantees that local workers will be used for the project.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>John Donoghue Jr., president of the 3,000-member Plattsburgh-Saranac  Lake Building Trades Council and business manager for Local 186 of the  Laborers International Union of North America, said he is pleased the  area has been able to land the massive project. But, he said, a project  labor agreement is the only way to guarantee local workers will be used  on the job.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Please don&#8217;t forget the local construction workers  along the way.
