The Albany Times-Union<\/a> is reporting this morning that one of the US’s largest Islamic organizations has acquired more than 100 acres of land in the Adirondack Park town of Lake Luzerne and hopes to build a new summer camp.<\/p>\n

The Islamic Circle of North America, a Muslim advocacy group based in New York City, hopes to raise money to develop a camp for children and families of all religions on land donated to it last year, Muhammad Rahman<\/a>, ICNA’s secretary general, said in an interview\u00a0Thursday.<\/p>\n

“Once we have some resources, we will submit a plan to the community,” Rahman said. “Then we’ll see what\u00a0happens.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The T-U reports that at least some locals don’t expect much controversy to follow the announcement.<\/div>\n

“It’s kind of their business, and it’s probably a good thing,” Steve Mackey, co-owner of Luzerne Market, said of the ICNA’s plans. “We’re Americans, a melting\u00a0pot.”<\/p>\n

Mackey checked with his employees to find out their thoughts and said that he didn’t expect the issue to explode into a controversy the way the plans for a Muslim community center near the World Trade Center site in Manhattan did last\u00a0year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
