{"id":3802,"date":"2011-02-22T08:50:05","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T13:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3802"},"modified":"2011-02-22T13:10:29","modified_gmt":"2011-02-22T18:10:29","slug":"morning-read-house-gop-wants-cuts-for-planned-parenthood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/02\/22\/morning-read-house-gop-wants-cuts-for-planned-parenthood\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  House GOP wants cuts for Planned Parenthood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x4357268\/Local-Planned-Parenthood-funding-in-jeopardy\">Plattsburgh Press Republican<\/a> is reporting that Planned Parenthood services used by roughly 14,000 women last year in the North Country could be scaled back if conservatives in the House have their way.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Kathie Wunderlich, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the North  Country New York, said North Country clinics may not survive without  federal funding.<\/p>\n<p>She said North Country women and others in rural areas face worse  obstacles to receiving health care than women elsewhere in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is a lack of primary health-care providers,&#8221; Wunderlich said. &#8220;A  huge number of patients consider us their primary care provider \u2014 their  only care provider, actually.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Planned Parenthood has been a target for conservatives for years, because one of the services the organization provides is legal, safe abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/article_36e377f4-3e0e-11e0-ac74-001cc4c002e0.html\">Glens Falls Post-Star<\/a> is reporting that the liberal group MoveOn.org plans a protest outside the Saratoga office of freshman Rep.
