{"id":3844,"date":"2011-03-02T15:29:25","date_gmt":"2011-03-02T20:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3844"},"modified":"2011-03-03T12:07:22","modified_gmt":"2011-03-03T17:07:22","slug":"small-protest-in-albany-dozen-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/03\/02\/small-protest-in-albany-dozen-arrested\/","title":{"rendered":"Small protest in Albany; dozen arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Given what&#8217;s been happening in Madison and Indianapolis &#8211; and given the depth and breadth of Governor Cuomo&#8217;s proposed budget cuts &#8211; Albany&#8217;s being watched closely as a hotspot for protests of those cuts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/local\/article\/Arrests-during-noisy-protest-inside-Capitol-1038202.php\">The first happened today.<\/a> Here&#8217;s the report we just got from our capitol reporter Karen Dewitt:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Shortly after 12:30 pm, around 150 members of the group VOCAL New York gathered at the main entrance to the Capitol and began to chant. They unfurled banners and used them to block all of the entrances to the Capitol hallways, including the escalators. After around half an hour, the police began arresting those blocking the entry ways. The groups include Community Voices Heard, Picture the Homeless, and Queers for Economic Justice. The groups work with the poor, homeless and those with HIV and AIDS.<br \/>\nAround a dozen were arrested.
