{"id":3933,"date":"2011-03-18T05:03:22","date_gmt":"2011-03-18T09:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3933"},"modified":"2011-03-18T19:10:13","modified_gmt":"2011-03-18T23:10:13","slug":"morning-read-clinton-county-considers-privatization-of-home-health-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/03\/18\/morning-read-clinton-county-considers-privatization-of-home-health-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Clinton County considers privatization of home health care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Counties around the North Country have been considering the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2010\/10\/13\/morning-read-franklin-county-privatizes-its-nursing-home\/\">privatization of their nursing homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now the <a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x10253877\/Clinton-County-to-consider-privatizing-home-health-care\">Plattsburgh Press Republican<\/a> is reporting that Clinton County may follow the trend by privatizing its in-home nursing and health care services.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last five years, the program shifted from being a net money-maker for the county to nearly a $2 million expense.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The increase is mostly due to a drastic drop in Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements and stricter federal guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There  obviously is a lot of emotion involving this, but for the county not to  look at alternatives that could continue to provide the service and  still save nearly $2 million would be irresponsible,&#8221; said County  Administrator Michael Zurlo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dozens of people turned out this week to protest the change, arguing that it would mean lower quality service.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x10253877\/Clinton-County-to-consider-privatizing-home-health-care\">Read the full article here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Counties around the North Country have been considering the privatization of their nursing homes.
