{"id":3958,"date":"2011-03-22T06:53:34","date_gmt":"2011-03-22T10:53:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3958"},"modified":"2011-03-22T21:19:47","modified_gmt":"2011-03-23T01:19:47","slug":"morning-read-another-north-country-school-closes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/03\/22\/morning-read-another-north-country-school-closes\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read: Another North Country school closes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this winter, we reported on the plan to close the Lake Colby school in Saranac Lake.\u00a0 Now the Glens Falls district has unveiled plans to mothball the Sanford Street Elementary.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/article_dacea6fc-5418-11e0-8dc8-001cc4c002e0.html\">This from the Glens Falls Post Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Thomas McGowan, superintendent of schools, recommended closing an elementary school and moving the fifth-graders to the middle school.<\/p>\n<p>Then he recommended closing Sanford Street, which instantly drew a sigh of shock from the audience.\u00a0 Residents remained silent as the board went on to approve the recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This has been a truly excruciating process to go through.
