{"id":3997,"date":"2011-03-29T16:17:20","date_gmt":"2011-03-29T20:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=3997"},"modified":"2011-03-29T21:45:48","modified_gmt":"2011-03-30T01:45:48","slug":"after-bullying-adk-enterprise-scales-back-public-comment-section","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/03\/29\/after-bullying-adk-enterprise-scales-back-public-comment-section\/","title":{"rendered":"After &#8220;bullying&#8221; Adk Enterprise scales back public comment section"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/content.detail\/id\/523701\/It-s-a-new-day-online.html?nav=5003\">Adirondack Daily Enterprise<\/a> is radically curtailing options on its website for public comment and feedback.\u00a0 The newspaper&#8217;s editorial team lays out some serious concerns about on-line dialogues and their limitations:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The intention was good, but some of the comments were really bad and  have been getting worse in some ways.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike letters to the editor that  are signed by the author, the anonymous comments on the Web let people  spew their verbal vomit without accountability.<\/p>\n<p>We noticed the dull,  negative clouds of comments were dividing our communities more than  enlightening them.<\/p>\n<p>These people, if they met on the street after a town  board meeting, would underscore their debate with some degree of  understanding.
