{"id":4028,"date":"2011-04-05T04:46:44","date_gmt":"2011-04-05T08:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4028"},"modified":"2011-04-05T09:06:08","modified_gmt":"2011-04-05T13:06:08","slug":"morning-read-adirondack-project-could-be-new-model-for-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/04\/05\/morning-read-adirondack-project-could-be-new-model-for-healthcare\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Adirondack project could be new model for healthcare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve reported before on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/12888\/20090130\/in-north-country-healthcare-crisis-a-push-for-reform-part-i\">Adirondack Regional Medical Home Pilot project<\/a>, which aims to refocus the way healthcare is delivered.<\/p>\n<p>The new approach is more outcomes-based and less concentrated on costly procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors and hospitals are rewarded financially for actually improving people&#8217;s health, not for using expensive machines or drugs.\u00a0\u00a0 They also work to reduce costly emergency room admissions.<\/p>\n<p>Now the A<a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/default\/article\/Medical-homes-offer-a-remedy-1320176.php#page-1\">lbany Times-Union has an update on the story<\/a>, looking in-depth at how the Medical Home approach affected Amy and Brendan Gotham, a couple in Lake Placid, who have a young baby.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Amy Gotham had just crawled into bed when the baby monitor shook with an alarming\u00a0noise.<\/p>\n<p>Gotham,  29, ran into the next bedroom to find then-5-month-old Liam bawling and  coughing, yet unable to make a sound.
