{"id":4072,"date":"2011-04-14T05:36:28","date_gmt":"2011-04-14T09:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4072"},"modified":"2011-04-14T14:44:09","modified_gmt":"2011-04-14T18:44:09","slug":"morning-read-the-canadians-are-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/04\/14\/morning-read-the-canadians-are-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  The Canadians are coming!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burlingtonfreepress.com\/article\/20110413\/NEWS01\/104130301\/Strong-Canadian-dollar-could-mean-more-tourists?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE\">Burlington Free Press<\/a> is reporting that tourism professionals in Vermont are bullish because of the strong Canadian dollar, which could drive more visitors south.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We watch that currency every day,&#8221; Bill Stenger [president and CEO of Jay Peak] told an audience at the  Vermont Travel Industry Conference on Tuesday morning at the Hilton  Burlington. &#8220;Canada is a unique, wonderful opportunity right now, and we  should be aggressively mining that opportunity every chance we get.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitaljournal.com\/pr\/277528\">The North Country Chamber of Commerce and its Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau<\/a> surveyed 250 members this spring to find out how Canadian business affects commerce in northern New York.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<blockquote>\n<li> A strong majority depends on Canadians for 20% or more of their  business. Almost a fifth depends on Canadians for more than 50% of their  business.<\/li>\n<li> 88% rate the importance of Canadians on their businesses as Important or Very Important. 48% say Very Important.<\/li>\n<li> 88% reported an increase in Canadian business in 2010  compared to 2009.
