Hamilton County is the oldest, median age 51.3 years.<\/p>\n<p>OK, OK. I&#8217;m a baby boomer, doing my share to push MY county into the upper brackets too. But it doesn&#8217;t feel like that here in Canton. Or neighboring Potsdam either. These are college towns, and I&#8217;m continually thankful for the value the colleges add to our lives here, culturally and socially. According to the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities, St. Lawrence County is among nine New York counties with the highest concentration of employment and wages in private education. And that&#8217;s just the private schools: St. Lawrence in Canton and Clarkson in Potsdam.
