{"id":4264,"date":"2011-05-20T06:07:38","date_gmt":"2011-05-20T10:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4264"},"modified":"2011-06-01T08:58:32","modified_gmt":"2011-06-01T12:58:32","slug":"morning-read-schoolteacher-accused-of-vandalizing-school-election-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/05\/20\/morning-read-schoolteacher-accused-of-vandalizing-school-election-signs\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Schoolteacher accused of vandalizing school election signs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/article_506298ee-8031-11e0-852c-001cc4c03286.html\">Glens Falls Post Star<\/a> has been reporting this week on public school teacher and school board member Mark Richards, who\u00a0 admitted to tearing down the campaign signs and pamphlets of write-in candidates in the Adirondack town of Johnsburg.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI tore them down because I don\u2019t want them on the board,\u201d he said of the write-in candidates. \u201cI think if they are on the board, they will destroy our school.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Richards is a PE teacher at a school in Hamilton County, but lives in Johnsburg.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/opinion\/editorial\/article_7c8cc160-81b2-11e0-8e9b-001cc4c03286.html\">lead editorial, the Post-Star<\/a> blasted Richards and urged him to step down from the Johnsburg school board immediately.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Such behavior is barely even rational, let alone acceptable from a member of a school board and of someone tasked with educating our children.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Richards \u2014 as an elected official, teacher and member of a board governing our children\u2019s education \u2014 is expected to set a positive example for the students in the district. But what does he do?
