{"id":4356,"date":"2011-06-13T07:41:30","date_gmt":"2011-06-13T11:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4356"},"modified":"2011-06-14T15:09:22","modified_gmt":"2011-06-14T19:09:22","slug":"morning-read-is-it-possible-to-silence-a-wind-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/06\/13\/morning-read-is-it-possible-to-silence-a-wind-farm\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Is it possible to silence a wind farm?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the big debates over wind farms and their development in small North Country towns is noise.\u00a0 Now the St. Lawrence county community of Morristown is considering strict new standards for limiting turbine noise.<\/p>\n<p>This from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/article\/20110613\/NEWS05\/306139972\">Watertown Daily Times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The town&#8217;s proposed wind energy law, which has a more stringent set  of guidelines for proposed turbines than other towns in the area, was  presented before the St. Lawrence Planning Board last week. The board  recommended approval of the plan pending certain adjustments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to have this project go,&#8221; board member Thomas L. Jenison said. &#8220;It is a big step in the right direction.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The law would require that turbines be no louder than 45 decibels.\u00a0 50 decibels is the standard for town laws.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/article\/20110613\/NEWS03\/306139983\">WDT is reporting<\/a> that BP Wind Energy is still considering a big wind farm in Cape Vincent, but may make some significant changes first.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[O]ther, newer turbine models could work better than the proposed GE  1.6-megawatt turbines.
