{"id":4596,"date":"2011-08-11T08:48:30","date_gmt":"2011-08-11T12:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4596"},"modified":"2011-08-17T10:02:00","modified_gmt":"2011-08-17T14:02:00","slug":"morning-read-writing-big-checks-to-bad-public-servants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/08\/11\/morning-read-writing-big-checks-to-bad-public-servants\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Writing big checks to bad public servants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Vermont is in the midst of a controversy right now involving two top administrators &#8212; including former president Daniel Fogel &#8212; who will be paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in severance money as they are being shown the door.<\/p>\n<p>Between them, the two executives, who were let go following a high-profile marital infidelity scandal, will cost UVM more than half a million dollars in pay with no work done in return, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burlingtonfreepress.com\/article\/20110811\/NEWS02\/110810038\/UVM-pays-Schultz-leave-?odyssey=tab|topnews|img|FRONTPAGE\">according to the Burlington Free Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the school&#8217;s board of trustees chairman Robert Cioffi acknowledged that the payments were controversial.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCertainly I have heard a significant amount of anger, frustration and  second-guessing around this situation,\u201d Cioffi said in his statement,  \u201cand I completely understand the reasons for those views.
