{"id":4599,"date":"2011-08-15T05:54:17","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T09:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4599"},"modified":"2011-08-17T10:03:29","modified_gmt":"2011-08-17T14:03:29","slug":"morning-read-i-laurentian-deal-not-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/08\/15\/morning-read-i-laurentian-deal-not-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read I:  Laurentian deal &#8220;not dead&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It may be the most anticipated, most vaunted, most tantalizing economic development deal that the North Country has ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>For years, the Laurentian Aerospace project &#8212; designed to bring a major aircraft refurbishment operation to Plattsburgh &#8212; has seemed just out of reach.<\/p>\n<p>Last March, backers announced that they had finally, really, truly lined up all the necessary financing.\u00a0 Just a couple of final details to be worked out.\u00a0 Then\u00a0 the project appeared to stop dead in its tracks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x1626824375\/Work-continues-on-Laurentian-Aerospace-deal\">But according to\u00a0 the Plattsburgh Press-Republican<\/a>, there is still a possibility that the start-up company will move forward again.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Chief Financial Officer Andrew Edwards said Laurentian officials  continue to work with their partners to set a date for the final closing  of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Contrary to various comments made recently in the Plattsburgh community, the project is not dead,&#8221; he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the newspaper, the current economic turmoil shouldn&#8217;t affect the project&#8217;s financing; and backers suggest that rising fuel costs could actually make the idea of a domestic airline refurbishment operation more attractive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pressrepublican.com\/0100_news\/x9783642\/Laurentian-to-Florida-rumor-called-unfounded\">Earlier in the summer, meanwhile, the Press-Republican reported<\/a> on rumors that the company might shift the project to Florida.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;That is absolute nonsense.
