{"id":4653,"date":"2011-08-24T09:44:43","date_gmt":"2011-08-24T13:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4653"},"modified":"2011-08-24T09:56:34","modified_gmt":"2011-08-24T13:56:34","slug":"laytons-last-visit-to-parliament-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/08\/24\/laytons-last-visit-to-parliament-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Layton&#8217;s last visit to Parliament Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As reported earlier, Jack Layton is to have a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.nationalpost.com\/2011\/08\/22\/jack-layton-to-receive-state-funeral\/\">state funeral in Toronto on Saturday<\/a>, an honor usually reserved for Prime Ministers, sitting cabinet ministers and Governors General.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/story\/2011\/08\/23\/pol-state-funeral-faq.html\">state funeral<\/a> in Canada for the leader of the opposition. (But then again, dying while serving in that capacity is also a sad first.)<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Saturday, Layton will also lie in state on Parliament Hill.
