{"id":470,"date":"2009-02-05T08:33:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-05T12:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/02\/05\/upper-saranac-jet-setters-zinged-by-ny-post\/"},"modified":"2009-02-05T08:33:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-05T12:33:00","slug":"upper-saranac-jet-setters-zinged-by-ny-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/02\/05\/upper-saranac-jet-setters-zinged-by-ny-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Upper Saranac jet-setters zinged by NY Post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Upper Saranac seasonal resident Sandy Weill &#8212; who has sometimes commuted by jet to the Adirondacks &#8212; drew the ire of the NY Post for his jet-setting ways.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Just weeks after Citigroup averted total collapse with a $45 billion shot in the arm of taxpayer cash, the bank jetted its former CEO and his family on one of its corporate jets to a posh Mexican resort for New Year&#8217;s, The Post has learned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the newspaper, Weill and his wife Joan traveled to Mexico on the bank&#8217;s Bombardier Global Express the same week that his former bank &#8220;agreed to curtail runaway corporate expenses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Post dubbed the trip &#8220;Citi&#8217;s sky-high arrogance.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Weill&#8217;s office issued a statement that &#8220;in light of the unprecedented circumstances that Citi finds itself in&#8217; he decided to stop using Citi aircraft immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The dust-up comes as President Barack Obama is trying to squeeze corporate execs tied to companies that are taking massive taxpayer bailouts.<\/p>\n<p>President Obama has described Wall Street&#8217;s lavish ways as &#8220;bad taste.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>But according to the Post, the Citi corporate jet is pretty darn tasteful.
