{"id":4821,"date":"2011-09-19T05:49:50","date_gmt":"2011-09-19T09:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4821"},"modified":"2011-09-19T07:34:25","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T11:34:25","slug":"morning-read-poverty-in-numbers-and-in-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/09\/19\/morning-read-poverty-in-numbers-and-in-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Poverty, in numbers and in lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/behind-the-poverty-numbers-real-lives-real-pain\/article_05a339ac-e225-11e0-872b-001cc4c03286.html\">Associated Press, by way of the Glens Falls Post Star<\/a>, is reacting this morning to news that one in six Americans now lives below the poverty line &#8212; including millions of our neighbors who used to cling, however tenuously, to the middle class.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At a food pantry in a Chicago suburb, a 38-year-old mother of two breaks into tears.<\/p>\n<p>She and her husband have been out of work for nearly two years. Their house and car are gone.
