{"id":4862,"date":"2011-09-26T14:25:03","date_gmt":"2011-09-26T18:25:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4862"},"modified":"2011-09-29T09:22:12","modified_gmt":"2011-09-29T13:22:12","slug":"what-if-its-just-not-true-about-regulations-killing-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/09\/26\/what-if-its-just-not-true-about-regulations-killing-jobs\/","title":{"rendered":"What if it&#8217;s just not true about government regulations killing jobs?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans are roundly convinced that Barack Obama and the Democrats have blundered the job of creating jobs and reviving the national economy.<\/p>\n<p>When talking about their own plans for sparking a renaissance &#8212; including here in the North Country &#8212; the GOP heralds two big ideas, tax cuts and deregulation.<\/p>\n<p>But a new report by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.propublica.org\/blog\/item\/whats-the-evidence-that-regulations-kill-jobs\"> the nonpartisan online journalism project Pro Publica<\/a> is raising new questions about whether that strategy will be effective.<\/p>\n<p>According to the in-depth article, regulation can indeed kill jobs or push industries to make big changes in the number of jobs they offer.\u00a0 But generally, those changes are off-set by the growth of other industries or jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The article cites &#8220;data<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/mslo.t02.htm\"><\/a> from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which shows employers attributing a  small fraction of job losses to governmental regulations.
