{"id":4935,"date":"2011-10-11T05:57:38","date_gmt":"2011-10-11T09:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=4935"},"modified":"2011-10-17T09:52:56","modified_gmt":"2011-10-17T13:52:56","slug":"morning-read-us-uses-ontario-for-child-sex-sting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/10\/11\/morning-read-us-uses-ontario-for-child-sex-sting\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  US uses Ontario for child sex sting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montrealgazette.com\/travel\/Online+ruse+used+Canada+help+capture+pedophiles\/5528605\/story.html\">Montreal Gazette <\/a>is reporting this morning that US officials used a fictional Ontario vacation opportunity as part of a sting aimed at catching pedophiles.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper describes the effort as &#8220;controversial&#8221; and says the Department of Homeland Security created a false website describing a &#8220;Precious Treasure Holiday&#8221; and portraying Ontario as &#8220;a haven for child-sex tourism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But it was the use of Canada as a safe haven for sex tourism that  raised questions about how the country was portrayed in the sting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Canada  made for a more plausible scenario,&#8221; Brian Moskowitz, the special agent  in charge of the investigation, told Postmedia News shortly after the  indictments were announced.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was never our intent to take  anyone to Canada and no children were involved.
