{"id":5170,"date":"2011-12-07T07:10:59","date_gmt":"2011-12-07T12:10:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=5170"},"modified":"2011-12-07T07:10:59","modified_gmt":"2011-12-07T12:10:59","slug":"morning-read-a-north-country-reading-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/12\/07\/morning-read-a-north-country-reading-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  A North Country reading list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/lifestyles\/local-books-worth-giving\/article_6887c20c-1d6e-11e1-afd6-0019bb2963f4.html\">Glens Falls Post Star<\/a> has compiled a great, holiday-season survey of writing from across the North Country, pulling together everything from poetry about the Lake Champlain Bridge to Revolutionary War history.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a sample:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Whether you&#8217;re an avid outdoor enthusiast or you just enjoy the outdoors through the comfort of an easy chair, check out &#8220;Heaven Up-h&#8217;isted-ness!: The History of the Adirondack Forty-Sixers and the High Peaks of the Adirondacks.&#8221; Written by several club members and compiled by Mike Becker, the book features profiles of a few of the original 46ers and their contributions, which keep the club dedicated to its purpose of &#8220;protecting and preserving the wilderness character&#8221; of the mountains, and exhaustive chapters of how each peak was named, its history and the topography that makes it unique.
