{"id":5173,"date":"2011-12-07T10:29:24","date_gmt":"2011-12-07T15:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=5173"},"modified":"2011-12-07T12:13:01","modified_gmt":"2011-12-07T17:13:01","slug":"afternoon-read-top-school-official-admits-describing-lake-placid-teachers-as-bitchy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2011\/12\/07\/afternoon-read-top-school-official-admits-describing-lake-placid-teachers-as-bitchy\/","title":{"rendered":"Afternoon Read:  Top school official admits describing Lake Placid teachers as &#8220;bitchy&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chris Morris, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/content.detail\/id\/528125\/Transcript-shows-Richards-admitted-to-offensive-language.html?nav=5008\">Adirondack Daily Enterprise<\/a>, has done extraordinary reporting the last two weeks on the growing controversy in Lake Placid&#8217;s school district, where a principal has accused the superintendent of gender discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>The nut of the allegation is this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Lake Placid Middle-High School Principal Katherine Mulderig filed a  gender discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity  Commission on March 7. She alleges that Superintendent Randy Richards  tried to reassign her to the elementary school in February because he  told her he needed someone &#8220;bitchier&#8221; to govern the &#8220;bitchy&#8221; female  teachers in the elementary school.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In his latest report, Morris has acquired documentation where Richards appears to concede to using the word &#8220;bitch&#8221; to describe teachers in his district.\u00a0 Which produced this exchange with Mulderig&#8217;s attorney, Phillip Steck:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Steck then asks if Richards agrees that [bitch] is a &#8220;typically derogatory  term when used in connection with women.&#8221; Richards again answers &#8220;yes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Several  pages later, Steck asks Richards if it surprised him that Mulderig  would be offended by the use of the word &#8220;bitch&#8221; in reference to  teachers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m initially surprised, yes,&#8221; Richards said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That surprises you, that she would take offense at the use of the word bitch in reference to teachers?&#8221; Steck asked again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes,&#8221; Richards answered.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/content.detail\/id\/528124\/Parents-upset-by-super-s-remarks.html?nav=5008\">According to Morris<\/a>, parents turned up at Tuesday night&#8217;s board of education meeting to complain about Richards&#8217; behavior and language.<\/p>\n<p>So far, school board members have declined to comment because this is a personnel matter that involves litigation.\u00a0 But this looks like one of those stories that has legs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chris Morris, at the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, has done extraordinary reporting the last two weeks [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[22,6],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5173"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5173"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5173\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5174,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5173\/revisions\/5174"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5173"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5173"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5173"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
