Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawacitizen.com\/brave+take+Year+plunge+Perth\/5934502\/story.html\">Ottawa Citizen coverage<\/a> of one such event in Perth, Ontario. And the website of the <a href=\"http:\/\/perthpolarbearplunge.ca\/\">Perth Polar Plunge<\/a> organization itself. I gather that about 80 participants collected over $10,000 in donations. This year, those funds will go toward supporting a free summer music festival in Stewart Park.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawasun.com\/2012\/01\/01\/dippers-get-a-frigid-start-to-year\">Ottawa Sun <\/a>reports that approximately 350 took the plunge at Britannia Beach into the Ottawa River for the <a href=\"http:\/\/ottawa.thesearsgreatcanadianchill.ca\/\">Sears &#8220;Great Canadian Chill&#8221;<\/a>, raising $45,000 to combat childhood cancer.<\/p>\n<p>More photos of the Britannia event can be seen at a blog called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.megapixeltravel.com\/\">Megapixeltravel <\/a>(travel for photographers).<\/p>\n<p>Polar bear plungers: why did you do it and can you describe what it felt like?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jump through the ice in January&#8230;would you do that?
