{"id":5503,"date":"2012-02-10T05:41:50","date_gmt":"2012-02-10T10:41:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=5503"},"modified":"2012-02-10T08:59:09","modified_gmt":"2012-02-10T13:59:09","slug":"morning-read-redistricting-delays-cloud-north-country-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/02\/10\/morning-read-redistricting-delays-cloud-north-country-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  Redistricting delays &#8220;cloud&#8221; North Country politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A major political fight is brewing over state Senate and Assembly district lines drawn up by politicians in Albany as part of the census-redistricting process.<\/p>\n<p>Critics, including Governor Andrew Cuomo, described the political map released last month as biased in favor of protecting incumbents.<\/p>\n<p>A court challenge is all but certain and the LATFOR commission hasn&#8217;t even released congressional boundaries yet.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/article\/20120210\/NEWS03\/702109832\"> Watertown Daily Times<\/a> is reporting today on what all that uncertainty means for candidates hoping to jump into races.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI can\u2019t imagine anybody who\u2019s considering a serious run for any  legislative seat in the state of New York not weighing the issue of  redistricting,\u201d said Brian S. McGrath, a Lewis County Democrat who ran  unsuccessfully for the Assembly in 2010 and won\u2019t run again this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrankly, it\u2019s probably the No. 1 consideration for most people  contemplating runs at the moment.
