{"id":5609,"date":"2012-03-01T08:18:50","date_gmt":"2012-03-01T13:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=5609"},"modified":"2012-03-01T09:37:18","modified_gmt":"2012-03-01T14:37:18","slug":"morning-read-a-revolving-door-in-saranac-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/03\/01\/morning-read-a-revolving-door-in-saranac-lake\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  A revolving door in Saranac Lake?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chris Knight has a piece in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com\/page\/content.detail\/id\/529560\/Village-board-to-appoint-McEneany-as-fire-driver.html?nav=5008\">Adirondack Daily Enterprise<\/a>, detailing plans by the Saranac Lake village board to appoint one of their own out-going members, John McEneany, to a paid position with the village fire department.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[Village Mayor Clyde] Rabideau acknowleged that some village residents might raise  questions about the board appointing one of its members to a village  job, but he said McEneany &#8220;went through the normal channels.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I  understand people will say, &#8216;Well, what&#8217;s going on?&#8217; but he applied for  the position,&#8221; Rabideau said. &#8220;I think he was the only local person to  apply. I think he&#8217;s a good, solid candidate and will be a very dedicated  and solid fire truck driver.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Complicating this story is the fact that in his role as trustee, McEneany played a prominent role in negotiating with the local fire squad. Knight also details the fact that McEneany&#8217;s business is in financial difficulties<\/p>\n<p>Knight goes on to note that this kind of decision isn&#8217;t unique in the community.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Two months after he lost his re-election bid to McEneany in 2002,  [current village manager John] Sweeney was appointed village manager.
