{"id":5721,"date":"2012-03-22T07:34:09","date_gmt":"2012-03-22T11:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/?p=5721"},"modified":"2012-03-22T07:43:02","modified_gmt":"2012-03-22T11:43:02","slug":"morning-read-in-assembly-race-a-mixed-bag-for-hoffman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/03\/22\/morning-read-in-assembly-race-a-mixed-bag-for-hoffman\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning Read:  In Assembly race, a mixed bag for Hoffman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-5722\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2012\/03\/22\/morning-read-in-assembly-race-a-mixed-bag-for-hoffman\/doug-hoffman\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5722 alignright\" title=\"doug hoffman\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/03\/doug-hoffman.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/03\/doug-hoffman.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/03\/doug-hoffman-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Doug Hoffman is back on the North Country political scene, chasing an Assembly seat this time &#8212; and it&#8217;s been a bit of a mixed bag so far.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/essex-county-republicans-back-stec-for-assembly\/article_d8f2787e-73c3-11e1-9088-001871e3ce6c.html\">The Glens Falls Post Star<\/a> notes this morning that Hoffman lost the GOP endorsement in his home county of Essex to Queensbury town supervisor Dan Stec.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Stec received about 60 percent of the weighted vote to beat  second-place finisher Doug Hoffman of Lake Placid, who received about 37  percent, and two other candidates, said county Republican Chairman  Ronald Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson said supporters of Stec were impressed with his  local government experience and with his willingness to step aside and  support endorsed Republican candidates in the 2002 Assembly and 2010  congressional races.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got the big spirits, he\u2019s got the background, and he\u2019s been a good Republican his whole life,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the other hand, Hoffman did pick up the Conservative Party nod in Warren County &#8212; Stec&#8217;s home county, which the Post Star called <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/news\/local\/hoffman-scores-major-endorsement\/article_63c5ca2a-7214-11e1-a589-0019bb2963f4.html\">&#8220;a major endorsement.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jackson&#8217;s reference to Stec&#8217;s willingness to &#8220;step aside&#8221; hints at the jitters that Republicans have to be feeling here about even the remote possibility of a third-party run by Hoffman on the Conservative line.<\/p>\n<p>This Assembly seat is pretty safe Republican territory, but Jay town supervisor Randy Douglas has said he&#8217;ll announce today whether he&#8217;ll make a Democratic bid for the post.<\/p>\n<p>If he jumps in, Douglas will be a formidable candidate and Republicans and Conservatives would need to be unified to beat him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doug Hoffman is back on the North Country political scene, chasing an Assembly seat this [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[22,6550,20],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5721"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/12"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5721"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5721\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5721"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5721"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5721"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
