{"id":602,"date":"2009-03-19T09:45:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-19T13:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/03\/19\/tax-flight-a-myth\/"},"modified":"2009-03-19T09:45:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-19T13:45:00","slug":"tax-flight-a-myth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/03\/19\/tax-flight-a-myth\/","title":{"rendered":"Tax flight a myth?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are plenty of staple explanations for Upstate New York&#8217;s seemingly eternal economic doldrums.  &#8220;We&#8217;re losing our youth.&#8221;  &#8220;The brain drain.&#8221;  &#8220;Our high taxes are forcing people to flee.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wait, check that last one.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/03\/19\/nyregion\/19leave.html?_r=1\">The New York Times find little evidence<\/a> that high taxes on the wealthy, mobile class pushes them to move.<\/p>\n<p>That should be welcome news for Gov. Paterson and Democratic leaders in Albany, who appear to be resigned to raising taxes on the wealthy to help close the $15 billion dollar budget gap.
