Stay tuned\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just returned from Washington, D.C., after a week of intense training about the new health care law \u2013 what it is, and what it might mean for people in Northern New York, and the rest of the country.\u00a0 The workshop was held jointly by NPR and the Kaiser Family Foundation (whose mission is to provide information about health care policy \u2013 and is NOT the same organization as Kaiser Permanente health insurance).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6064\" title=\"caduseus\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/files\/2012\/05\/caduseus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>There\u2019s been so much political wrangling over the health care law, it\u2019s been hard for most people to understand what\u2019s actually in it.\u00a0 Turns out, the state of New York is a leader in getting ready to implement the law, which is scheduled to go into effect in January 2014. \u00a0Some states, such as Florida, are doing nothing to prepare.\u00a0 Political insiders who spoke with us in Washington think these states are counting on the U.S. Supreme Court to strike it down, or for Mitt Romney to be elected president, and then repeal it.<\/p>\n<p>In the coming months, I\u2019m planning to report about what New York is doing, and what it will mean for people here.\u00a0 One thing we learned was that for folks who have employee-sponsored health insurance, it\u2019s not going to change much.\u00a0 It\u2019s the people on Medicaid, Medicare, and those with no insurance, who can expect some changes \u2013 new health care exchanges, and possibly a (subsidized) mandate to buy insurance.<\/p>\n<p>But nearly everyone who spoke with our group of reporters in Washington about details of the law, also spoke with a caveat \u2013 no one really knows how the Supreme Court will rule.\u00a0 The decision is expected sometime in June.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just returned from Washington, D.C., after a week of intense training about the new [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":77,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[4803,20],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6057"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/77"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6057"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6057\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":6065,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6057\/revisions\/6065"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6057"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6057"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6057"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
