{"id":611,"date":"2009-03-22T10:12:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-22T14:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/03\/22\/little-backs-tedisco-murphy-talks-death-penalty\/"},"modified":"2009-03-22T10:12:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-22T14:12:00","slug":"little-backs-tedisco-murphy-talks-death-penalty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.northcountrypublicradio.org\/inbox\/2009\/03\/22\/little-backs-tedisco-murphy-talks-death-penalty\/","title":{"rendered":"Little backs Tedisco, Murphy talks death penalty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State Senator Betty Little, who was shouldered aside for the special 20th district House race, made an appearance over the weekend with Assemblyman Jim Tedisco. <\/p>\n<p>The Queensbury Republican also chipped in $1,000 from her own war chest to help Tedisco beat Glens Falls Democrat Scott Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>It was her first big show of support for the Schenectady Republican, who also secured some big endorsements late in the week from the NFIB and the Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Murphy, meanwhile, made national headlines for opposing the death penalty in all cases, even including terrorists. <\/p>\n<p>Tedisco fired back immediately.  This from Fox News:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Scott Murphy&#8217;s opposition to the death penalty, even for terrorists like those who murdered nearly 3,000 of our fellow Americans on Sept. 11 was a shocking, stunning and deeply troubling revelation,&#8221; Tedisco said Saturday in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Murphy doesn&#8217;t believe Osama bin Laden deserves the death penalty?&#8221; he added. &#8220;That fact shows Murphy doesn&#8217;t understand or share Upstate&#8217;s values. Unlike Murphy, I support the death penalty for all terrorists.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Murphy campaign issued this statement:  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Scott respects that people have deeply held beliefs about the death penalty.  He is against it.
